Early History of the Campus

Concordia College, Ann Arbor, Michigan

by Erich A. von Fange

Dr. von Fange was born in Deshler, Nebraska. He received his high school and college education at Concordia Teachers College—Seward, graduating in 1945. He holds a M.A. degree from the University of Nebraska (1949) and a Ph. D. from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta (1962).

For as long as there has been a Concordia College—Ann Arbor, Dr. von Fange has been part of the faculty and staff. He was instrumental in planning the new campus for its fall 1963 opening. Since coming to Concordia in 1962, twenty-five years ago, he has served as Professor of Education and Psychology, Academic Dean, and Director of Institutional Research. Prior to his commitment to Concordia College—Ann Arbor, Dr. von Fange served other Lutheran colleges as Dean of Students, Director of Public Relations, and Residence Counselor. He has served the church-at-large on a number of committees and commissions. Dr. von Fange’s renaissance nature is evidenced by his several published articles on ancient history.
